ICF Walls up to Wallplate

The shell and internal load bearing walls are now complete on our self-build project in Tealby. Scaffolding is in place and we are ready to concrete. As we are filling a full storey high in one day, we support the ICF system using the props you can see in the photo above. These allow for fine adjustment of the formwork to get it sitting exactly plumb and to keep it steady whilst the concrete is being poured. Once concreting is complete the walls are re-checked and any slight adjustments to the propping system made.

As the last pour of concrete goes in, the wallplate is then dropped on top with grab-bolts drilled in underneath that sink into the top of the wet concrete, casting the timber plate into position. From there we will later connect the roof system.

There will be a slight pause now whilst steel in brought in to support the first floor level and the summer holidays thin us down a little. But otherwise progress is going well, next stop… MetalDeck!
